Abstract

Epilepsi ditandai dengan terjadinya kejang yang tidak dipicu setidaknya dua kali, dengan selang waktu minimal 24 jam, akibat pelepasan berlebihan atau aktivitas neuron abnormal yang terjadi sebagian atau secara umum di otak. Penggunaan obat antiepilepsi adalah salah satu hal yang dapat digunakan untuk mencegah kekambuhan kejang. Pemberian intervensi untuk meningkatkan pemahaman dari pentingnya patuh minum obat adalah hal yang penting bagi pasien epilepsi. Salah satu kegiatan yang menjadi upaya peningkatan kepatuhan adalah pengabdian kepada komunitas pasien epilepsi. Pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini dilakukan pada anggota komunitas ODE (Orang Dengan Epilepsi). Kegiatan ini dihadiri oleh anggota komunitas yang menjadi penyintas epilepsi serta para orang tua atau caregiver yang menjadi pendamping orang dengan epilepsi. Tujuan diadakannya pengabdian masyarakat ini adalah untuk meningkatkan pemahaman tentang pentingnya mematuhi minum obat bagi pasien epilepsi. Kegiatan ini dilakukan dengan metode ceramah, tanya jawab, serta diskusi dan berbagi pengalaman dalam mengelola kejang dan penggunaan obat antiepilepsi antaranggota komunitas ODE yang hadir. Setelah pemberian materi edukasi, banyak feedback dari anggota komunitas melalui beberapa pertanyaan yang diajukan, di antaranya mengenai bagaimana mendapatkan informasi tentang interaksi obat, penggunaan obat, pemicu kejang serta efek samping yang paling sering muncul. Untuk melanjutkan monitoring, perlu adanya pendampingan berkelanjutan serta inovasi intervensi yang dapat diberikan kepada anggota komunitas epilepsi agar tetap patuh minum obat. Kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat ini menjadi salah satu wadah untuk sesama anggota komunitas berkumpul dan saling berbagi informasi tentang kontrol kejang serta mendapatkan informasi dan motivasi agar tetap terus mengonsumsi obat antiepilepsi.
